The Kananaskis 100 Mile Relay - wow! It's a fantastic relay - probably few relays offer this kind of scenery and experience. See the details at K-100 Relay
I ran leg 5 - a monster of a climb. It has a difficulty level of 10. I did the typical mistake of going to fast early on. Leg 5 is brutal; it is almost 18 km - with an elevation gain of about 450 meters! Very steep. So this guy came and passed me at about 3km, so I thought I'd follow him. He told me there was a Grizzly Bear just up in the bushes beside the road. We didn't see it, but the Park Ranger was there with his gun. Wild Life Experience! Felt good to until about 8 km. After that, I pretty much fell apart and hit the wall. The hill gets steeper and steeper, and I barely made it to the top without passing out. I finished 5 minutes or so slower than I should have, but I guess it was a good learning experience! You can see how shaky I look at the end of my leg. It was still a lot of fun - a real adventure that I'd do again any time! Highly recommended relay - come and run it! All details about the event can be found at A tired Robert!. |
