I didn't run between January 2013 and March 2015. I had a big painful lump on my achilles tendon.

I fixed it, however! I used the eccentric heel drop exercise every day, and I used nitroglycerin patches on the sore area for about 5 weeks. Eventually, that lump started going away, and I start jogging a bit.

Here is a book with more advice for treating achilles problems that I recommend. Very helpful and you will learn a lot.
