I'm a 53 year old WM, run 25-30 miles a week. 2 months ago I jumped a mud puddle, pain in right knee, but able to complete run. Next day very sore and tender. Sports medicine doctor (orthopedist) examined me a week later and thought probably a incomplete tear of meniscus. Improved slowly, he stopped me from running for 6 weeks, just started back a week ago, only slight twinge when I increase my stride or run downhill. At the time he wanted to MRI my knee, but I'm very conservative about surgery and he agreed to wait 6 weeks. So I lucked out and didn't get surgery (probably would have had arthroscopic procedure).
So don't let them rush you to surgery, let the body heal itself. Dr J |

| Thanks for the story! Knee problems can be difficult to get over, I know it too well. Healing yourself -- I hear you! I've been there and I am now almost injury free. | |

It's been 6 weeks, back up to 25 miles a week, mostly in 90 degree weather with high humidity, knee without pain, pace still slow (combination heat and going slowly increasing pace for fear of hurting my knee again.

| Great to hear Jim! I hope your recovery continues to go well. My knee is better than ever, I can't really understand it, but no complaints! | |

I need advice. I have been diagnosed with a slightly torn meniscus in my right knee. The doctor would like to do a Partial mensicus, thye remove part of the meniscus. My question is as follows: If I am doing all this to re-gain my running is this the correct choice, I have heard afterwards the results are without a meniscus the knee is bone on bone anfd you have more pain. Should I just put up with the soreness and live with it ?
