What are you guys doing over the winter? Do you build a higher base and just do slow runs or do you keep the faster runs up?
I just ran slow (65-75% HR zone)last year from Nov. til Febr and I might do that again this winter. I have to start making a new plan for the next few months, right now I just run without a plan and I realized this week I started to slack a bit. |

I run through the winter, but I also have a treadmill at home that I use. It is a poor one though, and it sounds like it's going to break when I run on it. It needs maintenance.
I try to do more mileage over the winter, but the Alberta weather seems to ruin that idea every year! I also try to do a bit of Threshold runnning during winter, about 88% of Max HR. Once or twice a week, for about 15-25 minutes. |

| Susanne, when I trained in college, our coach didn't vary the workouts much from cross country to indoor track. We did add some extra speed work for the shorter races, but kept up the longer distance. If you keep up your distance, you keep your base. You won't have to worry about a slow start in the spring. | |

The last 2 winter, I ran through the entire winter by hardly using any treadmill. I ran at up to -32 degrees once but I have slowed now, now I would only run up to approx. -25
I have been sick for almost 2 weeks (with a bad cold, lots of coughing) so I didn't run for 10 days... well I am thinking, that gave me a little break as I haven't taken one in who knows how long and once this cold is over, I will increase my weekly distance to approx. 45 km per week, mostly doing slower runs. |

| I'm determined to run more this winter, and the weather in Alberta is pretty good so far this winter! I'm enjoying the winter running so far this winter. | |

I wish I could run this winter, especially because it's so nice for running this winter. However I have to deal with my foot problem and therefore I haven't run since December. (over 4 weeks)
I was hoping that in Febr. I can start running again |
