Considering we have been given a free running log I think we should all show a bit of appreciation and include a small introduction.
My name is Sarah and I am 22. I live in Cornwall where there is not a vast amount of marathons but I am trying to find out about some that I can join in with nearby. I started running about 2/3 years ago after I gave up smoking and decided to get healthy. I never used to be able to run a 1 mile circuit on the road without being knackered, and I could not even make it up the hills! I kept going with the help of my boyfriend, and began to really enjoy it. Now I run 3-4 times a week on the treadmill (the other days I do weight training), and am aiming to do some long distance running on the road. I am hoping to keep improving until I am really good and would like to do a marathon soon. |

Welcome Sarah! Great introduction!
Yes, of course you gotta run a marathon! I've done three so far and they are all very memorable to me...

I am a bit scared about running for so long! I guess I will have to get used to combining speed and distance. Maybe best to start with a half marathon.

| Yes, absolutely. Try a half first, and there is no hurry to do a marathon. It is common to focus on speed at a younger age and then going for marathons as you get closer to or over 30. | |

| Think about a marathon that has a "fun" or focusing aspect about it for you. Whether that may be: where it is, the route, bands... whatever. My first marathon had water along the whole route - kept me calm and level headed throught the course. Good Luck with it though... everybody will have lots of advice on how to choose a race/run. (just figured I'd jump in first!! - 5Ks and 10Ks are good at getting you out of bed on Saturday mornings) Good Luck! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. | |
